TOURIST INFORMATION
Sardara is a rural ancient village. The city centre boasts an architectural style typical of Campidano, well-preserved paved streets and ancient portals with carved symbols indicating various guilds (saddlers, blacksmiths, carpenters.) The archaeological museum contains numerous artifacts found in the area. In front of the church of Sant’Anastasia of the fifteenth century there is a nuragic well temple dating back to the tenth century BC, known as Funtana de is dolus (source of pain) for the beneficial properties of its water. In the centre of the town there are the Church of the Beata Vergine Assunta of the seventeenth century, the church of San Gregorio Magno of the fourteenth century and the church of Sant’Antonio of the seventeenth century. Nearby it is possible to admire the small sanctuary of Santa Maria Acquas, a pilgrimage destination for its miraculous waters. On the top of the hill where the baths are located there are the remains of the Castle of Monreale, built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries. About 30 km away it is possible to visit the site of the Barumini, regarded as the most important nuragic complex of Sardinia. The lovers of nature can enjoy the dune of Piscinas, the waterfalls of S’ega Sitzoris and the Altopiano della Giara, a highland populated by wild horses.
