TOURIST INFORMATION
Calatafimi-Segesta is a town rich in history, about 35 km away from Trapani. The name Calatafimi comes from the Arabic “Kalat-al-Fimi” which means “Castle of Euphemius.” Despite the Arab origin, Christianity soon spread in this area, as evidenced by the church of San Michele, dating back to the thirteenth century, and the Mother Church, built in the sixteenth century. The surrounding territory includes the Zingaro Nature Reserve, the ideal destination for those who like to be in close contact with nature. The tourists interested in the cultural-historical aspects of the city should not miss the archaeological site of the ancient Segesta. Alcamo, a city renown for the production of wine, can be easily reached from Calatafimi. Moreover, a visit to the Mount Bonifato nature reserve, the charming hamlet of Scopello – with its peculiar stacks – and Castellammare del Golfo, featuring an Arab-Norman castle, is highly recommended. Nearby, it is also worth mentioning the ancient town of Erice.
